Job Duties:

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a part time BH/DS Clinician III who is licensed in Virginia and has experience working with adults diagnosed with mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorders; and with experience treating individuals receiving medication assistance treatment (MAT) for our Adult Outpatient Services program.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Clinical Services to the adults diagnosed with mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorders.
  • Perform clinical assessments utilizing agency approved assessment instruments to include ongoing assessment of individuals, crisis intervention and group, individual and family counseling.
  • Develop and maintain clear, quantified service plans, individualized to client problem/needs, goals and objectives in format approved by the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Department.
  • Provide limited case management services with referral for more in-depth targeted case management.
  • Report all clinical and administrative functions via electronic health record (EHR) and computer/paper reporting mechanisms.
  • Provide clinical documentation and assure that all filing of clinical information and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the time frame required.
  • Serve on committees, take on projects and fill in administrative functions as assigned by the supervisor.

This position is designated as an Alpha I Position. In the event of an emergency, employees shall be required to report to their emergency assignment as directed by their supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires a four (4) year degree in a human services field (such as psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and five (5) years utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as clinician, counselor, therapist, social worker, psychologist or psychiatric nurse OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to nine (9) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid DMV driver’s license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Professional licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) or eligible, and/or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is required. All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:

Strong Preference – Professional licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) and/or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
Three (3) years of experience working with adults with mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorders.
Experience in crisis intervention and assessment.
Experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Experience utilizing local community resources for adults with mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorders.
Experience treating individuals receiving medication assisted treatment (MAT).
