Tigard takes great pride in our parks and trail systems and the Parks Team plays an integral role in maintaining, repairing, and developing our neighborhood parks and our community parks including Cook Park, the crown jewel of Tigard’s park system.
  • Planting, pruning trees and removing hazardous trees.
  • Irrigating, mowing, renovating and fertilizing turf, trimming, planting, fertilizing and pruning shrubs.
  • Operating specialized vehicles and heavy equipment (such as aerial lift trucks, production mowers) related to the construction, maintenance and repair of City parks.
  • Installing, inspecting, and maintaining park equipment and grounds to ensure safe user experiences.
  • Maintaining park appearance – graffiti and trash removal and vandalism repair.
  • Participates in programming, installing, troubleshooting and repairing irrigation systems.

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
 
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND 
  • Two (2) years of related experience, such as construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of streets, underground utilities, or parks and landscape. 
 Licenses and Certifications:
  • Utility Worker I: Oregon Driver license with the appropriate endorsements and satisfactory driving history.
  • Utility Worker II: Possession of a valid Class A (CDL) Commercial Oregon driver license with the appropriate endorsements (within 6 months of employment) and satisfactory driving history and Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide License.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain: Standard First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross and a valid CPR Certification
Union Representation: SEIU
 
Schedule: Generally, working days are Monday-Friday 8 hour days, occasionally weekend work during summertime.
 
Compensation for Utility Worker II: The hourly range for this overtime eligible position is $24.95-$33.33 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate’s related experience and education in accordance with the City’s pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $30.33 per hour.
 
Compensation for Utility Worker I: The hourly range for this overtime eligible position is $23.75-$31.83 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate’s related experience and education in accordance with the City’s pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $28.87 per hour.
 
Additional Information:
The successful candidate will pass a physical capacities test designed to evaluate ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job.
