STARTING SALARY RANGE: $20.22 - $22.24 per hour

POSITION: Permit Technician

POSITION NO: 6.140

DEPT: Community Development

This is responsible work in the Permit section of the Regulatory Division of Community Development. Responsibilities include managing permitting records and reports; data entry relative to: issuing permits, inspection requests/results, and contractor registration; updating computer files; and disseminating information to the public and within the department. Duties are performed in accordance with established procedures and with considerable independence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including data entry and related office equipment operation.
• Basic knowledge of construction industry nomenclature and techniques.
• Ability to learn construction industry terms and procedures and to become familiar with construction drawings, blueprints, etc.
• Thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, and math.
• Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
• Ability to maintain records clearly and accurately and make mathematical computations accurately.
• Ability to enter data clearly and accurately.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Training, Certification, and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by training in standard office practices and procedures.
• SunGard Naviline experience preferred.
• Minimum two years experience with zoning terms and building and permitting processes.
• Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements

• Valid Florida driver’s license.
• Serves as member of the Damage Assessment Team in declared emergencies.
