City Of Taylor Group is Hiring a Library Circulation Clerk Near UNKNOWN, MI

Taylor Community Library is seeking candidates for library circulation clerks with superior customer service skills to provide tactful, courteous, efficient customer service, explain membership requirements, and circulate library materials. Library circulation clerks provide support services to library users and staff. Circulation clerks are responsible for ensuring library computer records are current and the collection is in order. Circulation clerks keep up-to-date on Taylor Community Library and City of Taylor activities, events, and services.

To be considered for the position, candidates must have a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to students in an accredited Associate or Bachelor program, and those with experience working in libraries belonging to The Library Network cooperative.

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide friendly and helpful customer service to library users of all ages, provide local community information to residents, update library user and library material databases, conduct daily business operations, such as reconciling receipts, shipping/receiving, and filing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Key Tasks and Responsibilities; other duties may be assigned by the Director and/or designee)

  • Assist library management and paraprofessionals with conducting, implementing, and publicizing events, exhibits, and presentations.
  • Ensure materials are processed in accordance with library policies through directly stamping and labeling materials.
  • At least one of the following specializations: MelCat, donations, displays, process magazines.
  • Provide circulation services in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Answer user queries in person and via telephone, including placing holds and renewing items.
  • Assist users in operating machines such as photocopiers, fax, scanners, computers, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Aiding users in the retrieval of materials.
  • Responsible for accuracy in library user records; maintaining strict confidentiality of operations and records as dictated by the Library Privacy Act.
  • Responsible cash handling.
  • Navigate website to obtain information on library and city events and services.
  • Maintain inventory of library and office supplies.
  • Shipping and receiving of library materials and office supplies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a paraprofessional to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Must be able to lift, handle, and carry library materials, equipment, and supplies at a minimum of 20 pounds constantly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to push/pull/drag furniture and carts with library materials up to 150 pounds.
  • Must be able to constantly stand and exert well-paced mobility for period up to (3) hours in length.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and squat on a frequent basis to retrieve and shelve library materials.
  • Must be able to see close, distance, peripherally, and have the ability to adjust focus to observe library user behavior.
  • Must be able to read a diverse amount of printed and computer material.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and listen attentively to library users, coworkers, and management speaking quietly or in hushed tones.
  • Must have the coordination necessary to operate computers and office equipment with both push-buttons and touch screens.
  • Must be able to remain calm in a fast-paced customer-service oriented environment, while assisting a diverse blend of people.
  • Must be able to work the hours necessary to operate and manage the day-to-day business and to accomplish the short and long-term goals of the library. Required to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • None required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate in Applied Science in Library Technician preferred.
  • Student in accredited Bachelor degree program preferred.
  • 2 years experience in customer service experience preferred.
  • 2 years experience in a library belonging to The Library Network cooperative preferred.
  • Experience with CARL.X integrated library system preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak tactfully and effectively before library users in one-on-one situations and small or large classroom or educational settings.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to perform addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

WAGES & BENEFITS
