City of Tamarac is Hiring a Water System Operator I (Meter Reader) Near City of Tamarac, FL

Performs routine technical activities installing, maintaining, repairing, and reading water meters for residential, commercial, and industrial facilities. Inspects meters and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections and reports irregularities.
 
Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Water Accountability Supervisor.

Performs technical and maintenance activities, including but not limited to, installing, maintaining, and repairing water mains, meters, and service lines, fire hydrants, and related appurtenances.
 
Reads water meters per established/routed schedule and records data via handheld processor; loads and downloads information to the city’s information system per meter routes and work orders.
 
Investigates water usage and restores services as assigned; notes and records deficiencies of installations and appurtenances throughout utility system.
 
Inspects, cleans, maintains, and repairs water transmission and distribution systems and related equipment per established city and regulatory processes, standards, and guidelines.
 
Locates and repairs valves in water mains and operates water pumps and makes service taps.
 
Performs maintenance on equipment and tools and assists other utility crews as assigned.
 
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including work orders, location reports, activity reports, mileage logs, etc.
 
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including utilizing the city’s automated purchase order system and procurement card, schedules, work orders, construction drawings, zoning maps, monthly reports, daily logs, and data imported from systems and databases.
 
Adheres to all city and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.
 
Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event or other emergency to meet the city’s obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.
 
Maintains quality communication and interaction with all city employees, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive city image.
 
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibility.High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in municipal water meter reading, wastewater or water system maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
 
Required Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
 
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities.
 
Within one (1) year of hire, must participate in Trench Safety Training.
