CITY OF TAKOMA PARK is Hiring an Equipment Operator Near Takoma Park, MD

The City of Takoma Park is seeking an Equipment Operator to operate heavy construction equipment in support of the City's Public Works operations. This position is eligible for membership in AFSCME.

Typical Duties Include:

  • Operating loader, skid steer, backhoe and tractor and their attachments;
  • Driving small and large trucks to and from job sites with materials; picking up supplies;
  • Performing line-stripping on streets manually and with paint machine;
  • Participating in leaf collection operations, operating leaf vacuum and tub grinder;
  • Operating street sweeper to clean streets and right of ways
  • Performing maintenance on street signs
  • Patching potholes with cold patch
  • Performing street maintenance including crack filling and pavement repair
  • Operating snow plow and salt spreaders during snow and ice events
  • Performing pre- and post-inspections and minor maintenance on all equipment assigned to the Division
  • Assisting the Sanitation Division as a fill-in trash truck or recycling truck driver when needed
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; and,
  • Three to six months of related experience; or
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class B).

Preferred candidates may possess the following:

  • Loader, truck and back hoe certifications.

The hourly wage for this position is expected to be between $21.48 and $25.30, and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate.

We offer a highly competitive benefits package, including 100% paid premiums of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee only coverage, and 80% paid premiums for dependents.
