City of Sunrise is Hiring an Inventory Clerk 040824 Near Sunrise, FL


NATURE OF WORK
 
This classification involves assisting in the operation of a large warehouse facility for the City. An employee in this position maintains materials, supplies, and equipment inventories for an assigned utilities work unit; transmits purchase requests; receives deliveries; inspects items; stocks items; takes physical inventory; checks work orders; updates computers; and issues supplies. This position also codes, posts, balances, and audits inventory records; maintains and calibrates equipment; and performs warehouse housekeeping. 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assists in the operation of a central warehouse for supplies and materials used by the City.
  • Receives supplies, materials, and goods; checks goods for quality and quantity; selects proper procedure for storage; supervises rotating of stock if required; and issues material and supplies.
  • Checks deliveries by vendors against requisitions to ensure accuracy; answers telephone inquiries concerning materials in stock.
  • Maintains varied stock records such as inventory cards, invoices, purchase requests received, and the status of requisitions; verifies input and output records for computer; and identifies and codes stock items.
  • Performs considerable data entry and other computer-based work related to the purchasing and control of supplies, materials, and goods. 
  • Supervises assigned personnel in stockroom or warehouse storage, inventory operations, and housekeeping of storage areas.
  • Conducts vendor inquiries to discuss delivery, shortages, improper orders, and charges; researches product pricing and availability. 
  • Determines operational needs; works closely with the Purchasing on the procurement of all products.
  • Supervises periodic inventory of stock items; balances with control records; reconciles differences; and works closely with Finance to ensure items and inventories are properly recorded and tracked.
  • Issues parts to technicians.
  • Maintains and calibrates equipment.
  • Picks up/returns contractor temporary water meters.
  • Processes used meters for refurbishments or to be discontinued/scrapped.
  • Processes procurement card transactions.
  • Performs warehouse housekeeping.
  • Delivers parts to field as needed.
  • Operates forklift as needed.
  • Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION
 
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED equivalency diploma.
  • PROOF OF THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMPLETED EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION. (Applications without attached proof of education will not be processed for consideration.)
 
 
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
 
 
  • One year of work experience in supply and inventory control work including computerized record keeping, project tracking, and inventory ordering. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel preferred.
 

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license prior to hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical:
  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform duties including but not limited to climbing of ladders and lifting and moving of heavy stock, up to sixty (60) pounds. May involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects The position requires the ability to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time. Incumbent must have the ability to effectively operate City-issued motorized vehicles.
Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in a large warehouse and /or office setting with minimal exposure to hazardous conditions . Work hours may vary as needed and may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
Sensory: 
  • The ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Requires ability to adapt to frequent changes in workload and to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate while completing tasks within established time frames. It also requires interaction with employees and officials from all City departments/divisions, vendors and the general public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
  • Knowledge of storeroom or warehouse receipt, storage, and inventory practices/procedures.
  • Knowledge of detailed inventory record keeping practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computerized inventory record keeping practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of characteristics and use of items in commodity groupings. 
  • Skill in using Office and department software.
  • Ability to carry out daily activities with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate inventory records.
  • Ability to oversee assigned employees.
  • Ability to type inventory records and department chargebacks.
  • Ability to make routine calculations with speed and accuracy using calculator and adding machine.
  • Ability to operate City-issued vehicles, negotiate routes, and follow directions to work sites or vendors regarding materials.
  • Ability to plan and organize workload.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, performers, patrons, other employees, supervisors, other agencies, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities and varied responsibilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively to develop win-win solutions.
