City of St. Petersburg is Hiring a Plumbing Inspector Near Saint Petersburg, FL

This is skilled, technical field inspection and code enforcement work to ensure compliance with City codes and ordinances, State of Florida Building Codes and national and local technical standards for workmanship and safety governing the installation, operation, maintenance and alteration of plumbing and gas systems and related equipment in structures of all types throughout the city, including industrial plants, high rise buildings, business complexes and residential homes. Work involves responsibility to ensure regulatory compliance and to determine the existence of substandard or tampered conditions; the review of blueprints and specifications outlining proposed plumbing and/or gas installation activities for possible regulatory conflict; the issuance of stop work orders on unpermitted construction and substandard plumbing and/or gas systems; and the recommendation of necessary changes to meet required technical standards. An employee in this class must be able to make sound, well informed recommendations and decisions; to enforce regulations, laws and codes with firmness, tact and impartiality; and to effectively communicate with builders, architects, engineers, contractors and journeymen regarding compliance issues, frequently of a sensitive nature.

Salary:$30.86 - $41.10 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have at least five (5) years of responsible experience as a journeyman plumber, plumbing contractor, or plumbing inspector.
  • Possess and maintain a standard plumbing inspector license from the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation - OR - must meet the eligibility requirements and within 5 ½ months of appointment to the position, obtain and continue to maintain a provisional standard plumbing inspector license.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Have some experience in the use of a personal computer.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have considerable knowledge of municipal, state, regional and national regulatory codes and ordinance with respect to building, plumbing, and gas installations.
  • Have considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of related inspection and code enforcement, and of the assembly, installation, maintenance and operation of a variety of plumbing and gas systems and equipment.
  • Have prior experience as a plumbing inspector.
  • Have a state of Florida or County Plumbing Contractors License.
  • Are able to understand, inspect, and determine regulatory compliance using plans, blueprints, drawings, and diagrams.
