This is responsible professional and technical work developing, researching, preparing, implementing, and coordinating Community Rating System activities, FEMA compliance, administration of FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants, and complex public planning studies and programs, with a primary focus on the City’s floodplain management program. Work primarily includes coordinating the functional and technical aspects for initiatives to reduce flood damage to insurable properties in St. Petersburg; and to assist with application for and compliance with National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) series guidelines and requirements. An employee in this role will be assist in achieving significant improvement in the municipal CRS score by following CRS coordinator guidelines provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); making recommendations for program improvement; and implementing approved recommendations. Work will include conducting detailed studies, preparing reports, and making presentations regarding strategies to improve CRS scores; FEMA related sustainable development including the application, implementation, and close out of FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants; coastal management and resiliency; related historic preservation concerns; and other related planning activities. Work requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment, initiative, ingenuity, and tact; and extensive, productive interaction with City officials, other governmental agencies, commissions, boards, and the public.
