City of St. Louis is Hiring a Water Treatment Plant Operator Near St. Louis, MO

Department: Water Division

Salary

  • Minimum: $53,274.00
  • Maximum: $64,584.00

Normal entry salary is $53,274. Candidates who possess a Class A, B or C Public Drinking Water Treatment System Operator Certification issued by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources will start at $64,584 annually. Candidates who possess a Stationary Engineer’s License issued by the City of St. Louis will start at $64,584 annually.

Position Specifications

Incumbents in this position operate and maintain a coagulant house and filter plant in order to purify drinking water and ensure the safety of the drinking water system. Positions require shift, weekend and holiday assignments. Candidates must provide their availability for shift and weekend assignments on the Availability Section of the Employment Application.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's degree in Engineering, Environmental or Industrial Technologies, Building Maintenance or a related field; or at least one year experience assisting in the operation of a water treatment facility. OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Certification: Must obtain a Missouri Public Drinking Water Treatment System Operator Certification (Class D) by completion of the working test period.

License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing application and be able to present it upon request. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application.

When completing the Employment History and the Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application, please be as thorough as possible when describing your education, training and experience relating to this position. Your employment experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your experience and training evaluation. Applicants will only receive credit for their experience and education as shown on the application. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.

MEDICAL: An oral swab "Drug Screen" will be administered as part of the Medical examination.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.

Some positions may require candidates to pass a “Character Investigation” prior to appointment.
