DESCRIPTION
The Police Department Intern will have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of communications within the Sparks Police Department.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a paid internship that will work up to 20 hours per week, no more than 1,000 hours per calendar year and will have flexible scheduling.
Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications to continue in the recruitment process:
Must pass a Public Safety background check, including a State of Nevada and a FBI criminal record check for employment.
Must be registered in TMCC’s 911 Emergency Telecommunicator Dispatch Academy (CRJ 260) course.
The intern will participate and work with experienced Emergency Communications Dispatcher Supervisors to gain necessary skills and knowledge. The experience will assist the intern develop skills to properly dispatch necessary Police and Fire personnel needed by Sparks residents and the public, they will learn to answer routine calls received from the public for emergency services.
In this role, the intern will be supervised and work under the direction of an Emergency Communications Dispatch Supervisor. They may handle 911 recording requests, operate the CAD (computer-aided dispatch) system, file forms, and confirm record accuracy.
Prepare and produce 911 audio recordings which includes: locating requested 911 calls and creating audio files to be booked into evidence, shared with the City Attorney/DA, or released as a public record. Check and file Temporary Protection Orders (TPOs). Input emergency communications statistics data and documents into appropriate programs or databases for accuracy and completion. Utilize Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to input data. Other clerical tasks and projects necessary.
