City of South Fulton is Hiring a PLANNING CHIEF-BATTALION CHIEF Near Atlanta, GA

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

This classification will manage the personnel and operations of multiple fire stations, as assigned, including response to emergency calls, operation of fire apparatus and equipment, fire suppression, rescue operations, provision of emergency medical treatment, and other related firefighting activities.

.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Develop and oversee employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control.
  • Compile and review timesheets.
  • Approve/process employee concerns and problems.
  • Counsel or discipline employees as appropriate.
  • Assist with/ or complete employee performance appraisals.
  • Direct work.
  • Act as a liaison between employees and management.
  • Train staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Organize, prioritize, and assign work.
  • Prioritize and schedule work activities to meet objectives.
  • Ensure subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work.
  • Monitor status of work in progress and inspect completed work.
  • Consult with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise.
  • Provide progress and activity reports to management.
  • Assist with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
  • Consult with commanding officers, supervisory personnel of other stations, other public safety agencies, and other officials to gather/ exchange information, review operations/activities, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations.
  • Formulate and develop work methods, practices, policies, standard operating procedures, training programs, and general orders.
  • Implement departmental rules and regulations.
  • Maintain current manuals, policies/procedures, bulletins, or map books for training, reference and/or review.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to established safety procedures.
  • Monitor work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individual.
  • Initiate any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  • Attend shift meetings, workshops, and seminars as appropriate.
  • Will track all SOPs and assist with revisions.
  • Will handle any research questions, forms, or data requests for the department.
  • Will oversee station location plans and development of station replacement plans.
  • Will house all SAM documents.
  • Will become the accreditation manager for the department.
  • Will oversee ISO requirements and documents.
  • Will coordinate and lead STAT meetings once a month.
  • Will coordinate and lead planning updates at the quarterly staff meetings.
  • Will generate data and maps for meetings by district and station territory as needed.
  • Will oversee and update the strategic plan.
  • Will oversee and assist with developing standard coverage documents and risk assessment.
  • Will attend quarterly accreditation consortium meetings.
  • Evaluate performance and review levels of training.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit associated reports and records.
  • Conduct administrative functions associated with department operations.
  • Review incident reports, computer data input, and other documentation prepared by staff members.
  • Review/investigate all accidents and damage to department vehicles and equipment.
  • Review and approve time sheets.
  • Assist with the development and administration of the annual budget.
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget.
  • Will be responsible for performance metrics and working with all sections
  • Oversee work that involves the use of complex technical, scientific, or mathematical concepts that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
  • Responsible for upholding the skills possessed by teams that are required to accomplish the task of providing fire and life safety to the citizens of the City of South Fulton.
  • Act as Assistant Fire Chief in the absence of the same.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Associates degree required/ Bachelor’s degree highly preferred
  • Two (2) years as a Fire Captain and a minimum of Ten (10) years of progressive firefighter experience or
  • Must possess a State of Georgia Firefighter Certification, NPQ or IFSAC Hazardous Material Awareness/Operation or Core Certification, ICS NIMS 300, ICS NIMS 400, and Incident Safety Officer.

The Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council shall be the final authority with respect to authorizing employment and certification. In accordance with O.C.G.A. 25-4-8, a person who is seeking employment cannot have been convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction or of a crime, which if committed in this state, would constitute a felony under the laws of this state within ten years prior to employment, provided that a person who has been convicted of a felony more than five but less than ten years prior to employment may be certified and employed as a firefighter when the person has successfully completed a training program following the Georgia Fire Academy curriculum and sponsored by the Department of Corrections. Lastly, be recommend to the fire department by the proper authorities at the institution at which the training program was undertaken.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED

Physical Requirements:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 150 pounds). Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, fire, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, explosives, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
