City of Show Low, Arizona is Hiring a Maintenance Technician Near Show Low, AZ

Description

Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of City water, sewer, street and storm drainage facilities and systems. The Laborer is the first level of the Maintenance Technician series and is distinguished from higher level Maintenance Technicians, which are journey level positions requiring a higher skill level, including ADEQ Certification, greater experience, and independence.

Works under the general supervision of higher-level Maintenance Technicians

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Inspects and/or repairs chlorine machine, booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, drainage systems and sewer systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc
Determines the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation
Responds to complaints regarding water, wastewater, and road problems; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor.
Contacts residents and business owners in areas where services will be discontinued and explains when services will be shut off and how soon they will be turned back on.
Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment/tools and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
Operates light and medium-sized vehicles, construction, and power equipment, such as mechanized broom, jetter/inductor truck, backhoe/loader, excavators, skid steers, man-lift, dump truck and snowplows
Operates jackhammers, mowers and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and utility systems
Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including but not limited to pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling, installation, and maintenance of traffic control devices.
Performs all duties in strict compliance with appropriate safety and security standards. Ensures all applicable safety and health rules and regulations are followed. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes
Participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental and workgroup goals and objectives. Exhibits a high-level service orientation toward customers and maintains productive working relationships
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned

PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned
Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas as required or assigned.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Special Requirements

These requirements must be met to move into the Maintenance Technician series positions.

  • Valid Arizona Drivers License and ability to obtain ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License within six (6) months of employment.
  • ATSSA or LTAP Flagger or Work zone current training or certified within 6 months of employment.
  • Streets, Water and Wastewater Employees
    • Attainment of ADEQ operator grade 1 certification in area specified by department (i.e., Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection, Water Distribution) within twelve (12) months of employment.
