City of Shoreline is Hiring an Extra Help - Assistant Camp Director Near Shoreline, WA

We are seeking up to (9) Assistant Camp Directors for our Camp Shoreline summer program who can work during all the listed program dates. Assistant Camp Director positions include:
 
  • Spartan Recreation Center Activity Assistant Director (7-11yr olds)(up to 2 positions 20-40 hrs/wk
  • Spartan Recreation Center Sport Assistant Director (7-11yr olds)(up to 2 positions)20-40 hrs/wk
  • Spartan Recreation Center Lil’ Playground Pals (5-6yr olds)- 20 hrs/wk
  • Ridgecrest Elementary Assistant Director (5-11yr olds)- 40 hrs/wk
  • Ridgecrest Elementary Activity Assistant Director (7-11 yr olds)- 40 hrs/wk
  • Ridgecrest Elementary School Lil’ Playground Pals (5-6yr olds)- 40 hrs/wk
  • Outdoor Camp Assistant Director (9-12yr olds)- 40 hrs/wk
If you are wanting 40 hours a week, please also apply for the day camp counselor position. If hired as an assistant director at 20 hours, you can potentially be hired as a day camp counselor for an additional 20 hrs/wk as well.
 These are seasonal and non-benefited positions:
 Monday - Friday
 8 hour or 4 hour shifts depending on the specific position (see below), between the hours of
 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
 Paid assistant camp director training will be scheduled an average of 16 hours between April - June. In June there will also be a 6 - 8 hour onsite training And 20-40hrs allotted for pre-camp planning.

Camp Shoreline summer program dates
  • Camp Shoreline: June 24th- August 23rd
School's Out program dates:
 
  • Spring Break: April 22 - 26
  • Winter Break: December 23 - Jan.
Scope of Work
Ridgecrest Elementary- 40 hrs/wk: Provide staff/volunteer supervision and leadership at Camp Shoreline Summer Camp at Ridgecrest Elementary School for youth ages 5-11. Plan and lead a variety of activities including but not limited to visual and performing arts, sports, creative movement, team and individual games and sports.
 
Lil’ Playground Pals- 20 or 40/hrs wk- These positions will plan and oversee Camp Shoreline’s 5-6 year old camp program. The assistant director and camp counselors will lead campers in a variety of age appropriate games, sports, art projects, and much more.
 
Sport- 20 or 40/hrs wk- This position is responsible for creating and implementing a sport based camp curriculum and will work with camp leaders to guide participants in a variety of sports and sport-based activities. Some sports including but are not limited to basketball, soccer, dodgeball, track and field, racket sports, flag football.
 
Activity- 20 or 40/hrs wk- This position is responsible for planning and implementing creative and engaging activities each day of camp for a classroom of 40 children ages 7-11. Activities include, but are not limited to, arts & crafts, nature and science exploration, cooking and performance arts.
 
Outdoor Camp- 40 hrs/wk - Provide staff/volunteer supervision and leadership at Camp Shoreline Outdoor Camp at Hamlin Park and Richmond Beach Saltwater Park for youth ages 9-12. Assist site director and work with one or more camp leaders to plan and lead participants in a variety of activities including but are not limited to visual and performing arts, sports, creative movement, team and individual games and sports. Essential Functions 
  1. Assist site director in the coordination of camp activities and staff
  2. Supervision of staff and volunteers
  3. Supervision of campers 
  4. Assist with the daily planning, scheduling, and staffing of camp
  5. Communicate with the community and participant families in a professional manner
  6. Know and follow City policies and procedures
  7. Other duties as assigned
Depending on the camp in which you will be supervising, your job duties may include:
  • Leading activities in arts, sports and games for youth.
  • Developing an all outdoor camp curriculum.
  • Overseeing, planning, and organizing age appropriate activities for preschoolers.

Interact with diverse populations of all ages in a friendly environment.
Experience supervising and scheduling staff.
Experience in leading, in a group setting.
Experience in school or recreation activities that include supervising or leading groups of children.
Ability to work independently and with a group.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Strong interest and ability to lead activities in arts, sports and games for youth.
Strong oral communication skills with an enthusiastic and friendly personality.
Strong leadership and communication skills.Current First Aid/CPR certification is required, on-site training will be provided for those who are not currently certified.
 
 Employment is contingent upon successfully passing State/Federal pre-employment background checks.Environmental Conditions
 Community center/indoor and outdoor recreational facility environment; may travel from site to site; exposure to computer screen, noisy; inclement weather conditions.
 
 Physical Conditions
 Essential and marginal functions may require walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; heavy, moderate or light lifting and carrying; repeated bending
