City of Shoreline is Hiring an EH - Traffic Operations Seasonal Help Near Shoreline, WA

DEFINITIONThis is a seasonal 40-hour per week position. The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday with an occasional evening or weekend assignment. Seasonal Laborer's may work up to six months (1040 hours) during the vegetation growing season and weather sensitive street and surface water maintenance activities between April/May and September/October.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Traffic Operations Seasonal Laborer is a stand-alone position. Positions in this class are temporary and perform a variety of semi-skilled traffic/sign maintenance and repair tasks.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives supervision from the Traffic Operations Specialist or City Traffic Engineer.Essential Functions:
  1. Use light and heavy equipment, hand and power tools, and light and heavy vehicles to perform seasonal grounds and landscape maintenance.
  2. Perform seasonal maintenance tasks associated with signs throughout the city including but not limited to: Warning Signs, Regulatory Signs and Guide Signs.
  3. Assist with seasonal Thermoplastic Road Marking installation, refresh, and removal.
  4. Assist with seasonal inspection, maintenance and repair activities on various Traffic Control Devices, Traffic Count and Traffic Study materials.
  5. Perform traffic control activities (flagging, work zone set up and tear down) under direction and in support of seasonal work activities.
  6. Operate City vehicles in a proper and safe manner to transport personnel, materials, and miscellaneous equipment.
  7. Perform other related work as required.
Marginal Function Statement:
Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge of:
  • Basic Traffic Control signs, practices, rules and regulations.
  • Safe and proper usage of hand tools and light power tools
  • Laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles and safe driving practices
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions
Ability to:
  • Operate light duty vehicles and battery, electric, or fuel powered equipment.
  • Utilize hand and power tools used in performance of duties.
  • Perform semi-skilled tasks without close supervision.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.
  • Follow safe work practices and observe safety rules and precautions
  • Perform physical labor in all weather conditions.
  • Observe defensive driving practices.
  • Positively and effectively interact with diverse individuals to accomplish a common goal.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely.
 
Experience and Training Guidelines
 Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
One year of public works maintenance or equivalent outdoor construction work experience.
 
Education/Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
 
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid state-issued Driver's License.
Valid Washington State flagger/traffic control certification desired or ability to obtain.

Environmental Conditions:
Field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease; potentially hazardous chemicals; inclement weather conditions; work around heavy construction equipment; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders; work on slippery or uneven surfaces.
