City of Seattle is Hiring a Sr Utility Systems Maintenance Technician Near Seattle, WA

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking an experienced Senior Utility Systems Maintenance Technician to join in the Utility Operations and Maintenance Division. This position is responsible for leading the staff, overseeing the maintenance, repairs and installation of Utility Mechanical Equipment Systems, including pumping, controlling, regulating in the Pump Station/Distribution infrastructures. This position will report to the Utility Systems Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Perform lead and senior level technician work.
  • Install, maintain, and repair pressure regulator and relief valves.
  • Diagnose and repair all solenoid-controlled pump control and ball valves.
  • Maintain zone pressures that are assigned to the system infrastructure to protect from over pressurization.
  • Respond to system emergencies, troubleshoot valve/pump pressure and flow irregularities. 
  • Repair faulty meters, so data collected accurately reflects systems flows.
  • Responsible for managing work orders and maintain the labor and equipment hours through Maximo Maintenance Management System or Datasplice, and procurement of materials using Peoplesoft.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience working on utility mechanical systems such as Pump Stations (OR) One (1) year college/trade school training with a concentration in a mechanical discipline and two (2) years experience in water and wastewater or other utility service in the repair of hydraulic and electric pumps, motors, or similar devices.
Education and Experience Equivalency: Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.
 
License: Current valid Washington State driver's license. 
 
Certification and Other Requirements:
  • Confined Space, Fall Protection, Traffic Control and Forklift Certifications are required within one year of employment.
  • Portable Fire Extinguisher Inspection Certification is required within two years of employment.
You will be most successful in this role if you possess one or more of the following:
  • Journey-level experience in any of the following fields: machinist, pump station, maintenance, or regulating valves.
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing pressure reducing valves.
  • General knowledge of all components of water system pump station.
  • Experience in lifting and rigging procedures.
  • Experience working with a work management system, such as Maximo and Datasplice.
  • Ability to work within the organizational framework of “SPU Workplace Expectations,” including our values on safety, respect, diversity, trust, productivity, integrity, innovation, and partnership. Ability to communicate and work effectively within a multicultural workforce serving a diverse customer base.
Work Environment/Physical demands:
  • Work will be performed outdoors in all weather conditions, sometimes in heavy traffic, often in confined spaces.
  • Required to work around rotating machinery, including motors, generators, heavy equipment, and high voltage.
  • Position is subject to 24 hours on call status to respond to emergencies.

  • If you are selected to advance in this hiring process, you may be asked to obtain a Full Washington Driver Abstract from the Department of Licensing. Please do not provide until requested.
  • This hiring process involves a background check of conviction and arrest records in compliance with Seattle’s Fair Chance Employment Ordinance, SMC 14.17. Applicants will be provided with an opportunity to explain or correct background information.
  • SPU’s safety program requires a pre-employment medical assessment as a condition of employment in this position.
The full hourly range for this position is: $36.57 - $39.47
