In 2023 Seattle Center expanded its role to serve as the City's lead department for operating Seattle's new Waterfront Park, a series of new public spaces on Seattle's downtown waterfront between Pioneer Square and the Seattle Aquarium.
Seattle Center has built a Waterfront Operations team providing maintenance, public safety and strategic planning and oversight for the operations of the new waterfront, leveraging Seattle Center's experience successfully managing public space.
Seattle Center is working in partnership with the non-profit Friends of Waterfront Seattle, which is responsible to provide a range of recreational and cultural programming to the community in the new Waterfront Park.
In our first year we have grown Seattle Center's team by 20% to meet this new opportunity, building out a unified team to support both Seattle Center and the new Waterfront Park.
That team will continue to grow in to be ready for the park's completion in 2025.
About this position
We are seeking Installation Maintenance Workers (IMW) to provide preventive maintenance and repair services and labor assistance at a semi-skilled level at Waterfront Park, which will consist of 26 blocks of landscaping, piers, beach, promenade, playgrounds, a floating dock and additional public spaces and amenities by the time it is completed in 2025.
The IMW works under the general supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Crew Chief and supports the Waterfront operations team in implementing the established Performance Standards for Waterfront Park and helping ensure the safety and enjoyment of park visitors.
This position provides a unique opportunity to have a positive impact as part of a new Seattle Center work group and align with the department's strong and positive culture, including coordinating and supporting Waterfront maintenance and repair projects with Seattle Center Trades staff.
Here's More of What You'll Be Doing :
Perform maintenance and repairs of Waterfront assets to keep them in high-quality working order and meet established Performance Standards.
These activities may include :
Conduct basic graffiti removal on park assets; coordinate graffiti-related painting needs with Seattle Center Painters
Lead preventive maintenance programs for Waterfront assets including equipment, fixtures, and building systems
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in general construction and maintenance work with an emphasis on installation, repair and maintenance in a specific trade.
Combinations of experience, training and education will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).
License, Certification, and Other Requirements :
A Playground Safety Inspector Certification is required (or obtained during the first 12 months of employment).

The full pay range for this step-progression position is $34.71 - $36.04 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $34.
71 hourly. Current City employees' starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.
