MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly stated on the City of Saratoga Springs employment application form: Either:
1. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, VM Ware or a related field and ONE (1) YEAR full time paid experience involving the maintenance, installation of computer hardware and software and configuration of networks and/or VMWare;
OR
2. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, Information Technology VM Ware or a related field and THREE (3) YEARS full time paid experience involving the maintenance, installation of computer hardware and software and configuration of networks, and/or VMWare OR
3. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and FIVE (5) YEARS of full time paid experience involving the maintenance, installation of computer hardware and software and configuration networks and/or VMWare.
PLEASE NOTE:
·Certification of VMWare can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
·Certificate of Network Administration can be substituted for one (1) YEAR of experience.
·APLUS Certificate can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
·SPECIAL NOTE: If required to operate automotive equipment in the course of installation/testing/diagnostics or repair of the computer software and/or equipment installed within the City of Saratoga Springs’ vehicles, the employee must possess and maintain a current and valid NYS Driver’s License
DUTIES: This technical position involves responsibility for coordinating computer activities, services, and functions in a department or among departments. The incumbent is responsible for providing a variety of staff support services, including equipment installation and maintenance of local and wide area networks. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Finance with direct supervision by the Information Director of Information Technology. The incumbent does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITES (Illustrative only)
· Configures equipment and completes cable interfaces, referencing wiring diagrams and technical instructions and using special hand tools and testing equipment to validate proper performance;
· Runs diagnostic software programs to diagnose problems as needed;
· Evaluates and recommends acquisitions of computer hardware and software to meet automation needs;
· Participates in the planning for and the installation of computers and accessory equipment;
· Keeps informed on new developments in computer hardware and software and reviews publications and specifications;
· Instructs new and existing staff regarding the use of computer equipment and software;
· Operates, monitors, and controls computer network server and peripheral devices;
· Studies system and application operating instructions to determine proper equipment setup and run requirements;
**A provisional appointment is pending the appropriate NYS Civil Service Exam announced and administered locally. The provisional appointee will be required to sign up to take the exam once it is announced, pay the exam fee (or fee waiver if applicable), pass the exam and rank in the top three (3) grades to secure a permanent appointment*
