Assists in setting up events at various park(s) and/or public facilities; assists with routine custodial maintenance and repairs.
Assists in preparing facilities for events. Sets up and removes boxes, furniture, platforms, risers and concessions equipment. Lays down and removes carpets.
Cleans, dusts and polishes furniture and other woodwork, fixtures, appliances and equipment.
Participates in general clean up of facilities before, during and after events. Duties include sweeping, scrubbing and burnishing floors, washing windows, cleaning restrooms and vacuuming and shampooing carpets, as assigned.
Cleans and disinfects restrooms. Stocks and replenishes restrooms with supplies.
Collects, empties and relines trash cans and disposes of trash in appropriate bins.
Performs routine maintenance and repairs of facilities. Identifies and reports repair needs and hazardous conditions to appropriate staff.
Opens up and closes buildings and facilities for events. Performs crowd control and security activities at events. Ensures that all doors and windows are locked and lights are turned off at the end of the event.
Responds to inquiries from the public in a courteous manner.
Operates a variety of custodial equipment.
Follows applicable safety rules and regulations.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Knowledge of:
Safe work practices and procedures.
Basic mathematics.
Effective customer service techniques.
Ability to:
Perform physical labor for sustained periods, including moderate lifting.
Read diagrams.
Learn to safely and properly operate power equipment such as miscellaneous hand and power tools.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Provide effective customer service.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees and the general public.
Skill in:
Reading, writing and communicating at an appropriate level.
Dealing effectively with the public, co-workers and event organizers, providing a high level of customer service in difficult situations.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent is desirable.
Experience:
Six months of recent, paid work experience.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid Class C driver license.
