City Of San Leandro is Hiring a Recreation Leader Near San Leandro, CA

The City's Recreation and Parks Department is seeking interested applicants willing to work 5-20 hours a week (not to exceed 850 hours in a fiscal year) in various recreation programs. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and possess strong organization and communication skills. A deep commitment for excellence and experience providing responsible recreation programs in a diverse community is desired. Candidates may be assigned to any of the following program areas: Kiddie Kollege, Summer Day Camp, Youth Sports, and Aquatics.

Definition: Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties within various programs and activities of the Recreation and Parks Department; assists groups and individuals who are engaged in recreational activities, using recreation facilities, and performs other related work as required.

Essential Functions: The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity.

Kiddie Kollege: Position will plan, organize, and supervise exciting age-appropriate recreational and educational activities for preschool-aged children. Bilingual skills are highly desired.

Summer Day Camp: Position plans, develops, organizes and implements fun and exciting activities for school-aged youth. Develops relationships with families and participants providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment.

Youth Sports: Position will plan and supervise recreation activities for youth ages 5-14. Experience with sports, a desire to teach game fundamentals, and/or athletic background is highly desired.

Aquatics Cashier: Position is responsible for registration and admittance of the participants into the pool area, answering phones, cash handling, and maintaining front desk operations.Non-essential Functions:
  • Maintains cleanliness and order at recreation locations; 
  • Balances cash drawer for fee-based programs/activities;
  • Registers/checks in students arriving for recreational programs; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Guidelines: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and ability would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Coursework in special events, sports, education and related recreation courses is highly desired.

Experience:Entry level experience/expertise relevant to the particular activity to which assigned.
Licenses/certifications/other requirements: Must be willing to work such hours as are necessary to accomplish the job requirements; travel to recreation facilities and meetings. Must obtain a negative TB test by date of hire; Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and American Red Cross Standard First Aid certifications. Mandatory Training: There will be mandatory training scheduled which all staff must attend. Those dates are to be announced.
