City of San Diego is Hiring a Senior Drafting Aide Near San Diego, CA

Senior Drafting Aide positions prepare and/or digitize a variety of complex engineering drawings; utilize Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) or Geographic Information System (GIS) applications to create designs, maps, drawings, and reduce field notes; computer grades; prepare cross-sections, profiles, specifications, visual displays, maps, and charts; draft precise maps for land use, master plans, rights-of-way, and final zoning; combine maps on one scale; make architectural and structural drawings; prepare, check, and interpret legal descriptions; research, investigate, and delineate boundary lines; construct architectural and topographic models; prepare artwork for photography; interpret rules and regulations; may train and evaluate subordinates; and perform other duties as assigned.

NOTES:
  • Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:

    4% effective 7/1/24

    2% effective 1/1/25

    5% effective 7/1/25

  • Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).

You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
 
EXPERIENCE: Two years of full-time experience preparing and/or digitizing engineering plans and/or maps to scale. Qualifying experience MUST include assisting professional staff (Architect, Engineer, Surveyor, GIS or Information Systems personnel) responsible for plan and/or map development.

NOTES:
  • Successful completion of a college-level Drafting Technology or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certificate Program, an Associate's Degree or higher in Architecture, Drafting Technology, Geographic Information Systems or a closely related field may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of one year of the required experience.
  • Successful completion of high school, trade school or college-level Drafting or Geographic Information Systems course work may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of six months of the required experience (one class = one month experience.)
  • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.
 
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
  • Training, education and/or experience in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
