City of San Antonio is Hiring a Missing Persons Supervisor Near San Antonio, TX

Job Summary

Under direction of unit manager, is responsible for first line supervisory work supervising a shift of the Missing Persons/Juvenile Processing Office operations, to include assigning of subordinates to missing persons cases and other unit related responsibilities. Coordinates overall shift activities of this support function. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

10:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m., Tuesday - Saturday; Off days: Sunday & Monday

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervises a shift of the Missing Persons/Juvenile Processing Office.
  • Coordinates the assignment of subordinates to missing persons cases, processing of juveniles, and other unit responsibilities.
  • Conducts on-the-job-training, researches job related training and schedules agents, conducts performance appraisals, and approves requests for leave and overtime.
  • Completes and submits time sheets to the payroll department.
  • Participates in conducting job interviews and candidate selection for the unit.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and revision of unit Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Performs the duties of a Missing Persons Agent as required during staffing shortages.
  • Conducts reviews of case files and provides feedback to subordinates.
  • Conducts State mandated validations of case files and submits responses to Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Resolves complaints/conflicts serious in nature or when a subordinate is involved.
  • Interprets City, State, and Federal laws as necessary.
  • Prepares correspondences and reports.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  • Four (4) years' experience in a position requiring frequent interaction with adolescents in an educational or criminal justice position.
  • Valid Class "C" Driver's License.
  • Valid Texas Criminal Investigation Center and National Criminal Investigation Center (TCIC/NCIC) Certification required within one (1) year of employment.
  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor convictions, an Open Arrest for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and family violence convictions.

  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, additional background checks may be conducted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of all applicable Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances including the Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedures, and the Family Code.
  • Knowledge of all City streets, other departments, and outside agencies.
  • Knowledge of all City departmental rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and SOP's affecting the unit.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of training, supervision, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Knowledge of services provided by the police department, and the police department organizational structure.
  • Knowledge of police radio systems and their procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and access codes particular to the Police Department.
  • Knowledge of documents produced by courts.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, department members and the general public.
  • Ability to respond effectively in critical and emergency situations.
  • Ability to perform all duties assigned to the subordinate staff job class.
  • Ability to properly interpret and make sound decisions in accordance with laws, regulations and policies.
  • Ability to make determinations on whether complaint is statutory or administrative in nature.
  • Ability to access computer files.
  • Ability to elicit information through use of interviewing techniques and the accurate and complete police reports.
  • Ability to handle all the physical requirements of the job.
