Job Summary

Make an impact:
Be a part of keeping the City of Salem free from graffiti by becoming a part of the Salem Police Department’s Graffiti Abatement Team. You will work alongside officers to help make the city safer and graffiti free for our residents to enjoy.

What you will do:
Daily duties involve light office work and work out in the field. Most of your time will be spent driving to different locations within the city of Salem, responding to reports of graffiti and interacting with property and business owners. You will also be proactive in looking for graffiti and removing it in a timely manner to prevent it from growing. One of the key components of this job is customer service as you will be interacting with the community daily.
Additional information on job responsibilities:

  • Drive a city owned vehicle to respond to calls.
  • Work a four ten-hour shift week to include the weekend.
  • Use paint and other cleaning materials to remove or paint over graffiti.
  • Use a computer to complete reports and track graffiti calls
  • Work with other city departments such as Parks and Public Works to ensure that graffiti throughout the city is removed promptly.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check and physical exam.
  • Must pass a pre-employment police background check and drug test (including marijuana).
  • Must possess an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • One year general maintenance, repair, or construction experience in street right-of- way, public works facilities, utility systems, and public improvements (preference will be given to experience in specific area of assignment), or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • High school graduate or G.E.D. preferred.

The Development Services Section is charged with processing development and construction permit applications for the Community Planning and Development Department. Application types include but are not limited to pre-application conferences, land use actions, building permits, franchise utility permits, and public infrastructure permits. Our section coordinated programs within the Community Planning and Development Department by collaborating with numerous subject matter experts and stakeholders throughout the community.
