City of Roseville, MN is Hiring a Seasonal Tennis Instructor Near Roseville, MN

Summary

The Seasonal Tennis Instructor will assist in the implementation of Roseville Parks and Recreation tennis lessons in a manner to promote fun, enjoyment, health, and safety of participants of all ages and abilities. Seasonal Tennis Instructors receive work direction and report to the Recreation Supervisor. Seasonal Tennis Instructors assist in overseeing the assigned lessons, maintain constant supervision, and keep all participants within the activity area and safe and engaged at all times. This position has continuous public contact requiring professionalism, courtesy, and good judgement. Tennis Instructors are expected to initiate, lead, and participate in games and lessons, while modifying activities to meet specific characteristics of age, group, and ability level.

Essential Duties Responsibilities

  • Instructs participants in specific sport skills in a fun and safe environment
  • Greets participants and parents
  • Assists in program set-up, tear down, and implementation of all program activities
  • Enforces established rules to ensure the safe use of the facilities at all times and follows appropriate safety procedures
  • Takes attendance and ensures all participants have registered and have been picked up by appropriate adult or guardian
  • Executes first-aid and emergency procedures as needed and completes appropriate reports
  • Attends and participates in staff training, assigned program and operation meetings – providing input and updates on programs, events, and services
  • Checks out and returns all City of Roseville equipment and supplies
  • Reports all questionable and unusual occurrences and situations to the program supervisor promptly
  • Continually shows respect for diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and interests. Exhibits sensitivity to the needs of diverse audiences in all duties performed on behalf of the City to support Roseville in building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working environment and community.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience/Education

  • Punctual, reliable, and dependable in regards to work schedule
  • Knowledge and experience in playing, coaching, or teaching tennis
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and instruction towards participants while communicating effectively
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal skills
  • Provide instruction based on the ability and experience of class participants
  • Understanding of rules, game strategies, and skill development for all level of players
  • Basic reading, communication, math, and problem solving skills equivalent to that of a High School level
  • Possess a positive, energetic, and fun-loving attitude
  • Exhibit creative problem solving skills and the ability to think independently in a fast paced environment
  • Must have concussion training certificate by first day of staff training (provided by the City of Roseville)

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The Seasonal Tennis Instructor works outside at the city of Roseville parks. This position requires high attention to detail or deadlines 45-70% of the time and moderate physical effort of moving equipment up to 20 pounds, less than 25% of the time. Staff position schedules vary based on program hours and needs. Hours range from 2-12 hours per week.
The Seasonal Tennis Instructor is responsible for varied technical, complex, and confidential functions, many of which have deadlines and require significant attention to detail.
Activities that occur constantly (1 - 4 hours/shift): walking, talking, listening, hearing, repetitive motions, swinging a tennis racket, demonstrating, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and grasping
