City of Rochester is Hiring a Landscape Architect Near Rochester, NY

This is a professional and technical position in the Technical Services division of the Bureau of Engineering Services, Department of Environmental Services. The employee in this title is responsible for the design of urban landscapes and esthetic physical environments in conjunction with street design and site development. The Landscape Architect coordinates a wide range of engineering and landscapes architecture projects with the Departments of Community Development, Economic Development, and Parks, Recreation and Human Services. This employee works independently under general direction from the City Engineer. Related work is performed as required.
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title. A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three.   • Co-ordinates and supervises the implementation of engineering and site development projects planned in conjunction with a variety of structural and environmental improvements;
  • Prepares project designs, proposals, and specifications and evaluates consultants' designs and proposals and supervises their work;
  • Analyzes existing data about each project site, identifying factors that will affect implementation of project design, scheduling, and funding;
  • Presents plans of site development projects at public information meetings, explaining the details of projects and construction schedules;
  • Coordinates the formal site review process for each development project with City, County, State, and Federal departments and agencies;
  • Responds to inquiries from the public and agency, business, and local government representatives, concerning the scope and impact of projects;
  • Recommends new or alternative projects and designs to the City Engineer, preparing studies showing cost-effectiveness, timetables, legal restrictions, and other impacts of each alternative;
  • Reviews and comments on site development plans as acceptable under New York State standards for engineering and construction;
  • Coordinates the bid process;
  • Prepares and administers professional services agreements with consultants, preparing description of services to be rendered and budget;
  • Reviews work of consultants and contractors and recommends authorization of payment to them;
  • Supervises a technical staff performing office and field activities and recommends personnel actions such as hiring, promotion, discipline, and termination;
  • Inspects projects under construction to insure contractor's compliance with specifications and during the subsequent warranty period and recommends any additional work to be done by the contractor.
High school diploma or GED AND:
 
Five (5) years of experience developing landscape architecture plans and specifications, administering construction contracts, and making formal presentations of projects, two (2) years of which must include the supervision of landscape architects, designers, or technicians.
 
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Current registration and professional licensure as a Landscape Architect in the State of New York.
2. New York State Class D Operator's license at time of appointment and throughout tenure in title.
