The City of Roanoke is currently seeking an energetic, dedicated team player to fill a vacant Sign Marking Maintenance Technician Level II position in our Public Works/ Transportation Division/ Traffic Sign Shop.Responsible for supervising a crew of 2 to 6 employees in the field applying thermal plastics, the layout of new pavement markings for Stop bars, Crosswalks, Directional arrows, and pre-formed worded legends. Must be able to maneuver a small trailer towed behind a truck. Experience operating a thermal plastic machine and igniting thermal heating units is required. Responsibilities also include working with the long line striping crew, signing installation crew, and completing daily logs of work performed. Must be able to work during adverse weather conditions (hot/cold/rain/snow). Will be on call for emergency barricade duties and special events on a rotating schedule. The position is required to work during snow events. Class B CDL is required within six (6) months of hire. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2-3 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.Roanoke, Virginia, is a unique locality with amenities that you would expect from a dynamic urban center without losing the charm of a small town. Discuss job requirements and receive detailed instructions from the supervisorInspects sign and marking installations in progress to ensure conformance with current MUTCD standardsRequisitions of necessary equipment and materials in daily operationMaintains accurate shop daily operation log sheets and checklists using the VueWorks systemSets up work zones as needed to ensure according to the Virginia Work Area Protection ManualInstalls and repairs traffic signs and pavement markings throughout the CityAssists crew with laying down hot applied thermoplasticInstalls, repairs, and maintains street painting such as double yellow and skipsAssists the sign fabricator with making signsSets up work zones as needed according to the Virginia Work Area Protection ManualAssists the shop supervisor during emergency events and works with police, fire/EMS, and other governmental functionsParticipates in the City of Roanoke snow removal operationsAny other task above and beyond as deemed necessary by the Sign Shop Supervisor
