City of Roanoke, Virginia is Hiring a Maintenance Technician I - Stormwater Near Courtland, VA


The City of Roanoke is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of a closed-circuit television unit designed for stormwater infrastructure inspections including manhole depths, manhole conditions, flow characteristics. The successful candidate will gather and report work site information from inspections, casting and cover condition, and possible utility conflicts. Individual may assist with pipe cleaning and repair operations. Must operate and assist in the use of associated hand tools needed to complete assigned tasks. Follows safety regulations related to work area and equipment use. Assist in the reading of site plans for new stormwater infrastructure. Inform contractors and/or citizens of the work being performed. Assume leadership role in absence of Crew Leader. Standby work will include working some nights, holidays and weekends as needed. The operation of medium and heavy equipment such as streetsweepers, flusher truck, sewer cleaners, skid steers, dump trucks, front-end loaders, excavators and backhoes may be required. Perform related duties as required. HS Diploma/GED and 1-3 years related experience in storm drain, street maintenance, driving/operating heavy construction equipment and the performance of heavy manual labor; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Stormwater Utility (Construction Technician)
The City of Roanoke is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform skilled work in the operation of heavy motorized equipment involved with stormwater construction maintenance projects. Equipment used includes various heavy construction equipment, and various hand tools. Position responsible for repairs and renovations to stormwater conveyance system including pipes, manholes, and inlets. Ability to operate a combination sewer cleaner is a plus. Individual may assist with pipe cleaning operations. Follows safety regulations related to work area and equipment use. Standby work will include working some nights, holidays and weekends as needed. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training in storm drain, street maintenance, driving/operating heavy construction equipment and the performance of heavy manual labor; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and ability to obtain a N (Tanker) endorsement within 6 months of employment.

Stormwater: (CBD Tech)
 Performs semi-skilled work and manual tasks such as shoveling, raking, clearing trash/debris and sweeping involved with street maintenance, mainly in downtown. Equipment used includes dump truck and various hand tools. Makes repairs and renovations to Stormwater conveyance system including pipes, manholes, and inlets. Operates dump truck and heavy and light equipment. Must coordinate and maintain daily work schedules and track job progress, inspect work sites, and enforce all safety standards. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training in storm drain, street maintenance, driving/operating a dump truck and the performance of heavy manual labor; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Class B Commercial Driver's License a plus, or must acquire within 12 months of hire date. Certification for Registered Technician Pesticide Applicator must be acquired within 12 months of hire date. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Mobile work order system experience preferred. Completion of other tasks and jobs supporting the division may be assigned.

Must operate and assist in the use of associated hand tools needed to complete assigned tasks. Individual may assist with CCTV inspections and pipe repair operations. Follows safety regulations related to work area and equipment use. Standby work will include working some nights, holidays and weekends as needed. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training in storm drain, street maintenance, driving/operating a dump truck and the performance of heavy manual labor; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with a N (Tanker) endorsement or obtain endorsement within 6 months of employment.

SUMMARY 
Performs skilled work in the maintenance of facilities and/or equipment and in the operation of motorized equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following depending on the area of assignment. Other duties may be assigned.
Operates street sweeper, excavator, bulldozer, front-end loader and other medium to heavy equipment
Makes repairs and renovations to fields and grounds including mowing, mulching, aeration, grading, seeding, and sodding
Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of a closed-circuit television unit designed for stormwater infrastructure inspections. 
Gather and report work site information from inspections
Performs tasks such as pesticide application and asphalt leveling
Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
Operates all equipment, both light and heavy in snow removal
Paints walls and materials from surface preparation to application and finishing 
Performs minor repair of buildings, doors, windows and floors, locks, cabinets, and similar items

Uses and maintains spray painting and lawn care equipment for maintaining athletic fields
When not operating equipment, performs general laboring tasks such collecting and removing trash and debris from city properties
Assists with event support, snow removal and other emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends, as needed
May be responsible for fabrication, maintenance, and installation of traffic control, pavement markings and barricade signage according to City guidelines and uniformity.
May require some experience and knowledge of computer graphic software and equipment used for fabrication and installation of signs and markings.
May supervise crew in absence of supervisor
May be required to wear some type of respiratory protection in the performance of their duties
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 
May supervise a small crew. May supervise crew in the absence of Maintenance Technician III or Maintenance Technician IV.QUALIFICATIONS
