The City of Roanoke is seeking a dynamic team leader to serve in our Transportation Division. This role will perform skilled work overseeing all aspects of the City's Transportation Division Street Maintenance crews including full supervision of approximately 12-15 field operations staff as well as various division contracts. Performs or assists in the planning, preparation, estimation, and design of internal construction and maintenance projects. Will be responsible for utility location coordination and the preparation of internal right-of-way permit documents. General knowledge of construction site layout techniques and use of a builder’s level is required. Ability to read and understand construction drawings/sketches is required. Will also have a lead role in snow removal efforts; coordinating activities of employees from multiple departments during snow events. Position is responsible for supervision and oversight of crew collection and input of street maintenance asset data into VUEWorks asset management system. General understanding of GIS systems is a plus. Must coordinate and maintain daily work schedules and track job progress, inspect work sites, and enforce all safety standards. Must have excellent problem solving, verbal and written skills, leadership ability that results in successful project completion, and ability to use computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Must have the ability to make presentations to groups of employees and / or the public. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is a minimum requirement of the position. A bachelor's degree in construction management, operations management, or related filed is a plus; minimum of five (5) years experience and / or training in infrastructure maintenance and construction and supervisory responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience is desired. VDOT Asphalt Field Level 1 and Level 2 as well as Soils and Aggregates Compaction certifications must be obtained within 12 months of employment. Must possess a current, valid Virginia CDL A driver's permit with tanker endorsement (N) or possess the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. hhttp://www.roanokeva.gov/DocumentCenter/View/5597 Must possess current VDOT flagging and work area protection certifications or obtain them within 6 months of hire.
