City of Roanoke, Virginia is Hiring an Appraiser II Near Roanoke, VA

The City of Roanoke is seeking an Appraiser II to appraise residential, multi-family and/or non-complex commercial/industrial real property in the City. The successful candidate will make field appraisals of real property and answers inquiries concerning appraisals. They will also interview persons familiar with property, inspects property, searches public records of sales, leases, assessments and other transactions to determine proper value. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university supplemented by courses in real estate, law, computer science or related field; three or more years related experience and/or training in real estate appraisals; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Must possess a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must be licensed by the Commonwealth as a Certified Residential Appraiser or be willing to obtain the license within 3 years of employment.

This is an exempt position.SUMMARY 
Appraises residential, multi-family and/or non-complex commercial/industrial real property in the City.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Makes field appraisals of real property and answers inquiries concerning appraisals
Interviews persons familiar with property, inspects property, searches public records of sales, leases, assessments and other transactions to determine proper value
Takes measurements of buildings, collects data relative to number of rooms, type of construction, age income and expense information, building costs and other conditions affecting values, makes calculations and applies such data and analysis to appraisals of specific properties
Collects data relative to land valuations and applies such data in appraising specific parcels of land
Hears appeals and requests for changes in valuation, may make re-appraisals in connection with hearings
Keeps abreast of local property trends and of modern appraisal methods and techniques
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university supplemented by courses in real estate, law, computer science or related field; three or more years related experience and/or training in real estate appraisals; or equivalent combination of education and experience.LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must be licensed by the Commonwealth as a Certified Residential Appraiser or be willing to obtain the license within 3 years of employment.
