City of Riverside, CA is Hiring an UTILITY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR Near Riverside, CA

The Position

The City of Riverside, Public Utilities Department (RPU) is accepting applications for the position of UTILITY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR to fill one (1) vacancy in the Water Division. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.

Under general supervision, the Utility Equipment Operator is to operate heavy wheeled and crawler-mounted equipment in water utility construction and maintenance operations. The Utility Equipment Operator is to do related work as required.

Work Performed

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Operate diesel and gas powered equipment such as heavy trucks and crawler-mounted cranes, shovels and tractors, wheel and crawler-mounted loaders, pavement breakers, backhoes, trenching machines and related heavy duty equipment in excavating, the placing of pipes, transformer pads, street light standards, conduit and vaults, and backfilling and loading work .
  • Perform maintenance and construction work with crew when not operating equipment assigned to crew.
  • Make minor adjustments and emergency repairs to equipment and regularly inspects and services equipment.
  • Place traffic and pedestrian safety services; measure and mark out project, locating obstacles to be avoided.
  • May operate a variety of powered hand tools in cutting/breaking pavement and compacting backfill.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:


Education:
Equivalent to graduation from high school or G.E.D.
Experience: At least one year of experience in the operation of a variety of heavy and moderately heavy wheeled and crawler-mounted automotive equipment.
Highly Desired Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Class "A" California motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Three years of John Deere backhoe experience conducting trenching and underground work.
Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of or ability to obtain by hire date a valid Class "A" California motor vehicle operator's license

  • An advanced-level degree from an accredited US college or university.
