Under the direction of the Public Works Director, this position performs a wide variety of skilled maintenance duties in the Streets, Parks, Wastewater/Storm Drain, Building and Harbor/Pier Divisions of the Public Works Department and supervises other maintenance staff members and work crews.The listed tasks are essential for this position and may include but are not limited to the following:
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires knowledge of materials, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures and/or practices necessary to perform required maintenance duties; basic supervisory principles and practices; construction tools and materials, computer software programs; accepted safety standards, protocols and approved methods of construction activities; applicable building codes and ordinances; basic principles of maintenance work.
This position requires the ability to supervise crews of maintenance personnel; prepare reports, keep accurate and comprehensive records; perform skilled maintenance work; apply sound inspection methods to examine workmanship and materials and to detect deviations from plans, specifications, and standard installation practices; read and interpret diagrams, plans, and specifications; maintain cooperative working relationships with builders, contractors, and the general public.
This position requires graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of diversified experience at the service maintenance or skilled craft level that provides the knowledge and ability necessary to perform required duties.
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver License is required. Class B Driver License may be required.CLASSIFICATION:
This position is designated as Classified and is covered under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime regulations.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process may include but is not limited to: Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process, such as: Reference check, background investigation, fingerprint criminal history check, post-offer drug test, post-offer psychological and post-offer medical examination, the cost of which will be borne by the City.
