The City of Raymore Parks and Recreation Division is looking for a Camp Supervisor who is passionate about working with children and excited about making a difference in their lives. The Camp Supervisor is responsible for providing adult leadership, supervision and professional curriculum development to youth day camp programs. Programs should be engage the children in interactive activities including organized arts and crafts, sports activities, games and field trips while maintaining a safe environment. This position will be responsible for assisting the Lead Counselors in planning daily camp activities for an assigned group of campers ages 5-11 in a loving and safe environment.
The Supervisor is responsible for performing all job tasks in a manner that exemplifies camp standards of courtesy and values.

Summer camp runs June 5 through August 11. Camp staff must be available for mandatory training prior to the start of camp. Training has been tentatively scheduled for the week of May 13th.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Comply with personnel policies for all camp staff. Supervise all camp staff – recruit, select, place, evaluate, and release.
2. Plan, conduct, and evaluate pre-camp and on-the-job training of camp staff.
3. Assist in the development of a staff manual, including health and safety policies, emergency procedures, and camp standards.
4. Coordinate the camp program:
1. Coordinates daily, weekly, and field trip schedules.
2. Plan and conduct staff meetings.
3. Develop the camp curriculum.
4. Assist in the procurement of commodities and contractual agreements for camp activities.
5. Schedule camp counselors.
6. Ensure a balanced level of activity on a daily, weekly, and seasonal basis.
5. Direct the preparation of site(s) for the activities assigned. Ensure that facilities and equipment are clean and prepared for the day’s activities; that facilities and equipment are in good working condition; and that camper storage areas are maintained without obstructions.
6. Enforce all facility and camp rules. Encourage camper and counselor attention to instruction.
7. Encourage the development of honesty, integrity, teamwork, and other positive character traits in campers and counselors.
8. Promote positive Public Relations with campers, parents, and the community.
1. Prepare parent communication newsletters weekly.
2. Immediately notify parents of incidents/accidents.
3. Encourage service to the community through camp activities.
9. Communicate with the Recreation Coordinator regarding concerns and issues with facilities, equipment, campers, or parents.
10. Secure and protect facilities from damage during scheduled use.
11. Direct the clean up/tear down of program areas after use.
12. Report ALL incidents (physical injury or behavioral) to the Recreation Coordinator within 24 hours of the event.
13. Report all facility maintenance concerns to the maintenance crews or Recreation Coordinator, as applicable, immediately.
14. Ensure the safety of participants during programs and offer first aid as necessary.
15. Communicate program information to participants and participant feedback to department staff.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. 18 years of age with a clean and valid driver’s license.
2. Knowledge of education curricula development in general.
3. Attendance to at least one workshop or seminar related to day camp programs.
4. Ability to select, train, and supervise teenaged staff.
5. Ability to evaluate camp programs, activities, staffing arrangements and make necessary changes as needed.
6. Ability to adjust to changing situations.
7. Ability to make judgments related to personnel, health, safety, and crisis situations.
8. First Aid and CPR certified or able to become certified prior to the start of camp.
