The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department mission is
We are seeking a new team member who has a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn by doing. The ideal candidate will have a passion to understand good horticultural practices including, weeding, watering, proper pruning, soil preparation, planting, invasive plant removal, soil testing, and fertilization. This new team member must have great customer service skills as well, because you may advise garden clubs, civic groups, and individual citizens on gardening subjects and regularly work with volunteers to accomplish large projects. The Gardener must be able to work independently with little supervision as well as a part of a team.
The Pullen Park Gardener must have a minimum of a High School education and possess a Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, and a satisfactory driving record.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, and detail oriented. They are exceptionally independent, works diligently, and has landscape gardening experience.
As a new team member with Pullen Park, you will be trained on how to safely operate small equipment and be required to use equipment such as string trimmers, blowers, edgers, and operate commercial vehicles and trailers under 26,000 pounds (non-CDL). As needed, you will assist the City in cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
The Gardener is a physically demanding job. The candidate must have the ability to work outside and in all weather conditions, including extreme hot and cold, and rain and snow.
The employee is required to use repetitive hand motion, count, stand, walk, lift, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, and lift. This position is required to perform heavy work, which includes exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
