The Permitting Advocate plays a critical role in the initial stages of the development process. This position is responsible for managing the intake of development service requests, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of technical documentation, and providing technical support and guidance to clients and internal teams. The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. In addition, this position is devoted to providing review and permitting of land development and redevelopment projects through processes governed by the City of Raleigh’s Unified Development Ordinance. Work may include serving as initial point of contact for plan and project intake; processing permits; approving permits not requiring plans review; routing permits for review; researching property information; processing non- permit applications; explaining fees, policies and regulations; and performing quality control, as assigned.
Education and Experience
High school Diploma (or GED), supplemented by college coursework in engineering, planning, architecture, construction management, or a related field. Four years of progressively responsible development services technician experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a public agency.
