JOB
The City of Raleigh is seeking a devoted Housing Inspector III to provide inspection and/or enforcement activities for the City's Community Development and Housing program. Incumbents inspect new and existing buildings and structures to ensure conformance with the housing, building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes as well as the public nuisance and zoning codes pertaining to vehicles. Incumbents routinely perform multi-trade permitted inspections.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Interprets various trade codes and ordinances; inspects new and existing buildings and structures to ensure conformance with minimum housing, building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes; inspects properties and enforces adopted codes ensuring that minimum standards of health, safety and neighborhood preservation for the general public are adhered to; processes housing cases where ordinances have been adopted.Identifies and processes public nuisance and zoning vehicle cases on private property to obtain compliance with applicable code.Facilitates abatements of public nuisance violations and processes contracts; performs research to determine and communicate with property owners and responsible parties; files legal documents pertaining to relevant cases.Provides technical expertise, training and guidance in support of multi-trade housing inspections and in addressing related code issues and violations; provides assessment and inspection support in response to weather events and related property damage.Prepares, updates and maintains code enforcement case files; organizes and maintains electronic and paper files and related reports and documentation; confers with property owners, contractors, property managers, attorneys and government agencies on code-related actions; administers citations for non- compliance; and provides court testimony as needed.Attends community and government agency meetings regarding housing, public nuisance codes and code enforcement actions; obtains administrative warrants to gain access and inspect properties in violation of ordinances.Identifies, develops, implement and maintains processes and practices that encourage, support and promote effective, comprehensive and meaningful citizen engagement.Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
