City of Raleigh North Carolina is Hiring a Ground Maintenance Worker Near Raleigh, NC

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department (PRCR) mission is

The Department is guided by a comprehensive 20-year System Plan that identifies the overall vision of Bringing People to Parks and Parks to People.
The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking candidates that align with the City's values, is team-oriented and a leader with passion and vision for parks and serving the community. The Maintenance Worker will be assigned to parks maintenance District 1, which is a 7-member team consisting of three maintenance workers, one equipment operator, a senior maintenance technician, one gardener, and a crew supervisor. Candidates seeking the Maintenance Worker position will communicate well, be reliable, safety conscious, and possess a strong work ethic. It is important for this position to have a keen awareness of good customer service and public image, and high standards for quality of work.

  • Mowing, edging, blowing, trimming, mulching, debris pickup, leaf removal, installing and watering plants, pruning trees and shrubs, and weeding by hand or with tools 
  • Operates machinery, including a zero-turn mower, stand on mower, tractor, string trimmer, edger, saw, pruners, and backpack blower. Additionally operates snow removal equipment to maintain sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways
  • Drives a truck with trailer on busy city streets and haul materials and equipment under 26,000 pounds (non-CDL)
  • Performs preventative equipment maintenance, including replacing worn or damaged parts, sharpening blades, and greasing machinery
  • Attends all required safety trainings and participates in team building activities
  • Works with volunteer groups on a regular basis
  • Assists the City in cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations, and volunteer events, which may require working extended hours and weekends during these events
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and two years of turf maintenance or customer service related to assignment.ORAn equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.Licensing and Certifications:
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Positions in this class typically require, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.Medium Work:Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:

Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and movement restrictions; and moderate exposure intense noise or travel.Note:
