The City of Puyallup is hiring an Engineering Technician IV to join the Development Review team in the Development and Permitting Services Department. This classification involves a wide range of complex engineering tasks. The successful candidate will independently solve problems in the field or office. Office duties include office management functions. Work can be conducted in an office or in the field under a variety of weather conditions.The City of Puyallup is a community of 43,000 and is situated at the foot of scenic Mount Rainier. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Office Section: Performs complete building permit plan review on all public and private development projects including commercial, industrial, multi-family, and residential to ensure that city engineering standards are met and that plan reviews are complete and accurate;Calculates system development charges;Performs complete plan reviews on right-of-way and utility connection applications;Performs complete plan reviews on franchise utility applications to include utility placement and required traffic control;Corresponds or responds to complex questions and provides technical assistance to the public, developers, design engineers or other city departments relating to public works construction projects, private developments, utility locates, engineering specifications, city codes, zoning, and city records;Processes street vacations and Latecomer requests, including the preparation of staff reports for City Council;Prepares and maintains records of a variety of departmental functions, including franchises, easements, deeds, street vacations, Latecomers charges, and utility connections;Calculates and reports new annual infrastructure;May attend Planning Commission or City Council meetings as a departmental representative when necessary;Assists in the departmental budget preparation; assists in developing new operating procedures within the department;Conducts fee surveys in connection with revising connection charge fees and development engineering fees;Acts as primary contact for developing street numbering and addressing;Responsible to insure that information being transmitted to the public is accurate and consistent; andPerforms other tasks and related work as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Constant Demands: Seeing. Frequent Demands: Sitting, talking, hearing. Occasional Demands: Standing, walking, driving, lifting average of 10 pounds, maximum of 45 pounds., climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights/balancing, bending and twisting at the waist, crouching, kneeling, squatting, crawling, repetitive arm and hand motion, handling and grasping. Environmental Factors: Low noise level, 20% of time spent outdoors, below normal temperatures in the winter months. This position is at potential risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.SELECTION PROCESSOnly applications that include the response to the Supplemental Questions will be accepted.
