City of Providence is Hiring an Animal control officer Near Providence, RI

Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of the Animal Control Division is responsible for work of a supervisory nature in the control of domestic animals with respect to the protection of the public health and safety.

THIS POSITION SCHEDULE IS FROM Sunday Thursday 3pm to 11 pm

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Learn, interpret, implement, and enforce Federal, State, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations related to domestic animal control.
  • Learn operational characteristics of animal control equipment and tools.
  • Utilize safe driving principles and practices.
  • Capture, impound, euthanize, and identify breed and gender of domestic animals.
  • Prepare and maintain complete and accurate records and police reports.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision; exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious relationships with the general public and other agencies contacted in the daily course of work.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with the public and domestic animals.
  • Working knowledge of all animal control ordinances and laws; knowledge of basic principles of animal control enforcement.
  • Knowledge of the principles of domestic animal care, disease treatment, and disease prevention.
  • Knowledge of department procedures and practices including occupational hazards and standard safety practices in domestic animal control;

knowledge of office equipment and technology.

  • Must be physically fit with the ability to lift weight up to sixty (60) pounds.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to cold and / or inclement weather, work within a confined space, and capture and control potentially vicious domestic animals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously both orally and in writing.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.

Training Requirements

The term limited means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
