City of Princeton is Hiring a Firefighter (fulltime 2,912 annual hours) Near Princeton, TX

JOB
Primary: Under general direction from the Shift Officer, responsible for effective teamwork within the organization in support of the Fire Department’s mission, goals, and programs. As a Firefighter/Driver, ensure the operational readiness of the Princeton Fire Department related to apparatus/equipment and emergency response capability. In the performance of duties, acts in a safe, professional, and competent manner with accountability. Has the responsibility for enforcement and compliance with city policy. Participates in the activities of their assigned shift, and treats the citizens with respect and professionalism. Collateral: Prevention/Inspection duties, Public Education, and Public Information. Based on Shift assignment may be responsible for a departmental focus on special programs and projects.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provide for citizens’ and firefighters' health, welfare, and safety under their responsibility and supervision.Assure appropriate actions are taken daily and at emergencies to address firefighter and occupant safety.Perform with competency in the role of FF/Drive in the performance of normal and emergency duties.Delegate duties and responsibilities as necessary through the empowerment of other shift personnel.Plan, and carry out prevention/public education activities to serve the needs of the community.Inspect apparatus and equipment on assigned shifts to ensure department, city, and state compliance.Mentor and coach personnel to increase their overall effectiveness and prepare them for advancement.Train and interact with department personnel to increase our overall effectiveness and competency.Maintain proficiency/certifications related to the department’s fire and emergency medical mission.Embrace health and fitness by a first responder’s duties and department SOGs.Engage in the daily operations of an assigned shift to assure proficiency and overall success.Work cohesively with public officials, employees, and citizens in meeting community needs.Respectful to the city and department’s missions and organizational values.Enforcement of city and departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.Flexibility and initiative in all aspects related to department obligations.Integrity is related to the city, department, and citizens we serve.Dependability and unselfish commitment to our community.Communicate effectively, tactfully, and with approachability.Execute additional duties as directed.Professionalism is paramount.Attendance; regular and timely attendance during assigned work hours. After-hours and weekend work are required as necessary.Deadlines; ability to set and meet appropriate deadlines. Timely follow-up and follow-through with staff and others. Effectively multi-task and work under time pressure and deadlines.Communication & Record Keeping; ability to read, comprehend, and effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. All work must be performed in a timely and satisfactory manner.Financial; ensure all expenditures are within budget. Utilize corporate credit cards ethically and responsibly. Submit receipts monthly. Ensure all financial functions, recordkeeping, and reporting are performed timely and accurately and that records are properly created and maintained.Policies & Procedures; perform duties by City policies, procedures, standards, and comply with local, state, and federal law.Safety; follow safety policies and rules.Stay Current; keep up with trends and changes.Confidential Information; safeguard confidential information and disclose only to those in need to know”.Teamwork; work effectively with others as part of a team to ensure efficient operations and enhanced productivity.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
ADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability: Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (50-200 pounds). Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate odors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depths. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate textures. Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communication ability. Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions, strong odors and/or smoke, strong and/or toxic chemicals, dust or pollen, and elements that can cause illness (e.g. pathogenic substances, viruses, parasites). Hiring ProcessThe hiring process includes a written test, physical ability test, panel interview, medical examination, drug screening, and final interview. Only one day will be given for the written and fitness test. The written test passing score is 70. The physical ability test is a pass/failure, but overall times will be converted into scores. The panel interview is scored. Panel interview date and times will be scheduled through email notification of the candidates to be interviewed. Each step of the process will occur between the hours of 9am and 3pm. If scoring high enough in a combined score of all phases, a candidate will undergo a complete background check and final interview. Following the final interview, a medical examination and drug screening will be required prior to a final job offer. Paramedics and military personnel with honorable service may receive higher consideration.Additional InformationThank you for your interest.
