City Of Port St. Lucie is Hiring a Warehouse Technician- Utility Systems Department Near Florida, FL

THIS POSITION REQUIRES SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS.
Assist with the operation of a warehouse; responsible for ordering warehouse inventory, maintaining vendor relations, processing invoices for payment, receiving, stocking, processing, and distributing materials for stock, specialty orders, and issue to requisitioning Utility divisions or field personnel. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City and it’s Utility.
This position is an Essential classification and will be required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.

  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Utility Systems Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Performs alias stock issue, returns, and transfers using warehouse and inventory software.
  • Receives purchase orders, partial orders (create backorder if needed), and creates receipts for items received using warehouse and inventory software.
  • Creates barcode labels for material; sorts and places material on racks, shelves, or in bins according to barcode labels.
  • Creates new part numbers and locations using warehouse and inventory software.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory records; runs various reports using warehouse and inventory software.
  • Performs cycle counts both manually and using handheld scanner.
  • Operates forklift to load and unload material from trucks.
  • Enters necessary documentation into computer database for New Sewer, Commercial Grinders, Sewer Conversions, and contractor’s grinder panel installs.
  • Assists in any maintenance requirements including equipment operation or labor as required.
  • Drives city vehicle to transport equipment to or from repair facility.
  • Prepares parcels for shipping.
  • Assembles contractors’ materials from stock and loads or distributes materials to contractors’ vehicles by hand or forklift.
  • Performs all associated duties pertaining to laundry; tracks uniforms to ensure accuracy; verified accuracy of invoicing on a weekly basis.
  • Procures needed supplies from assigned vendors to maintain stock levels in accordance with the City purchasing policy and using DemandStar.
  • Processes invoices for Accounts payable
  • Conducts weekly inventory.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skill and/or Ability Required:
  • Knowledge of warehouse and inventory practices.
  • Knowledge of the City’s and department’s policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of materials used in the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater facilities, water distribution and wastewater collection systems. 
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, brass, PVC and ductile iron pipe and related fittings and couplings.
  • Knowledge of job-related software as required by Department.
  • Knowledge of common Procurement and Accounts Payable practices.
  • Ability to count and inspect a variety of materials accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to operate forklift and common warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, field personnel, City departments, and the public.
  • Ability to keep, establish and maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.

Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. One (1) year of inventory control experience in a warehouse environment required. One (1) year of experience with water distribution and wastewater collection system environment preferred. Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required. Forklift certification required to be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 85 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions that may be adverse and extreme (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.). The employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, uneven surfaces, heights, and stressful situations. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
 The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
