City Of Port St. Lucie is Hiring a Jr Basketball Officials I & II Near FL 34953, FL

The City of Port St. Lucie is an equal opportunity employer.
The part-time Jr. Basketball Officials I & II is responsible for officiating scheduled basketball games and programs sponsored or coordinated by the Parks & Recreation Department. A high level of independent judgment is necessary to be an Official. Jr. officials are under the direction of the assigned Senior Basketball Official and Leader/Supervisor. All employees are responsible to the City Manager. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.
This position is a contractual position, subject to the terms and conditions of an employment agreement.
The hourly rates for this position are as follows:
Junior Basketball Official I- $17.00
Junior Basketball Official II- $25.00
The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Parks & Recreation Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • JRBB Official I- Officiates Junior Basketball games/tournaments in compliance with The National Alliance of Youth Sports (NAYS).
  • JRBB Official II- Officiates Junior Basketball games/tournaments in compliance with the Florida High School Athletics Association (FHSAA).
  • Establishes and maintains an effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationship with participants including coaches, players, supervisors, and other employees of the Parks & Recreation Department.
  • Maintains accurate time sheets and turns them into designated supervisor.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Prior experience in officiating basketball games is preferred.
JRBB Official I- Basketball Official Certification through NAYS, required. CPR/AED training is required within 60 days of hire.
JRBB Official II- Basketball Official Certification/Registration through FHSAA required. CPR/AED training is required within 60 days of hire.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
 
Knowledge, Skill and/or Ability Required:
  • Ability to learn and follow City policies and regulations. 
  • Ability to appear on time for all scheduled games and notify appropriate individuals in advance if unable to work. 
  • Ability to see play with sufficient clarity to make accurate decisions.
  • Ability to repeatedly and quickly traverse the court to monitor play.
  • Ability to work at least three (3) games in succession.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations.
  • Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization.
  • Ability to stay centered when challenged.
  • Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of the department and the public.

The Official works indoor at a city owned basketball court. The Official will be exposed to loud noises, moving participants and the public. While performing the duties of this job, the Official is regularly required to talk or hear. The Official is frequently required to stand and walk/run. The instructor is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to loud noises, moving participants and the public.
 
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
