City of Pleasanton is Hiring a Police Dispatcher (Lateral - Experience Required) Near Pleasanton, CA


The City of Pleasanton is seeking a Lateral Police Dispatcher to perform a variety of duties in connection with the dispatch of Police Department units and the maintenance of police records. This position is also responsible for the dispatch of Public Works and Fire units. The ideal candidate will be able to make independent judgments in emergency situations, deal with the public in sensitive situations, and perform skilled typing, and related clerical work, often of a confidential nature. 
A complete application includes:
1) a Valid POST Dispatcher Basic Certificate
2) a Typing Certificate of a minimum of 35 wpm
3) a Valid California Drivers License
About the Police DepartmentThe Pleasanton Police Department is committed to protecting life, preventing crime, and enhancing the quality of life in our community. The department is organized into three divisions. The Operations Division, the Investigations Division, and the Support Services Division. The Operations Division includes Patrol, the Traffic Unit, and the Alternate Response Unit (ARU). The Investigation Division manages the Criminal Investigations Unit, Youth and Community Services, Personnel and Training, Special Enforcement Unit as well as our Community Outreach and social media. This division is also responsible for in-service training and certified courses to ensure compliance with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and applicable educational mandates for all sworn and civilian police personnel.   • Answers emergency and non-emergency telephones and conducts interviews with callers to determine the nature of call, priority and appropriate response and/or action.
  • Dispatches Police Department units and, as necessary, Public Works and Fire units.
  • Takes police reports and processes requests for routine information received both in person and by telephone or radio.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties including: typing police reports; confirming warrants; taking reports from citizens; fingerprinting; and processing of applicable reports and records.
Education:
  • High school graduation or GED equivalent.
Experience:
  • One year of public safety dispatching experience.
License:
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Basic POST Dispatcher certificate
Knowledge of:
  • Generally accepted office practices and procedures and of standard office equipment including personal computers.

Skill to:

  • Respond correctly, calmly and quickly under emergency conditions.
  • Deal effectively with the public and maintain effective working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Communicate clearly and precisely.
  • Correctly apply established department policies and procedures in the dispatch of emergency units.
  • Accurately type statistical data at a rate of not less than 35 wpm, using both typewriter and word processor.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
