City of Pilot Point is Hiring a Librarian Near Pilot Point, TX

Under the supervision of the Library Director, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing programming for all ages—children, teens, and adults. Performs varied administrative and professional library work related to cataloging, collection development, and promoting the Library through social media. Works with community groups and schools to offer and expand library services through outreach programs. Provides the highest level possible of professional, friendly, and responsive customer services to everyone who visits the Library and assists patrons in the use of library services, facilities and equipment.
  • Curate and manage library collections, including selecting, acquiring, cataloging, and weeding materials.
  • Provide reference and research assistance to patrons, utilizing both print and digital resources.
  • Develop and implement library programs and events for patrons of all ages, such as Storytime sessions, book clubs, and workshops.
  • Assist patrons with using library resources, including computers, databases, and digital media.
  • Maintain the library's physical and digital spaces, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, schools, and other libraries to promote library services and literacy initiatives.
  • Stay informed about current trends in library science, literature, and education, and incorporate new ideas and technologies into library services.
  • Train and supervise library staff and volunteers as needed.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as budgeting, reporting, and policy development.
  • Uphold library policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
  • Manage cash transactions with precision, accuracy, and integrity, maintaining balanced cash drawers and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Library Science (ALA accredited program)
  • 2 to 4 years of experience as a professional Librarian, preferably in a public library
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of library principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in library cataloging systems and classification schemes (e.g., Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress).
  • Excellent research skills and familiarity with reference tools and databases.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and integrate them into library services.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse patrons and staff.
  • Creativity and innovation in developing engaging library programs and events.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail for managing collections and administrative tasks.
  • Commitment to promoting literacy, lifelong learning, and equitable access to information.
  • Leadership abilities for supervising staff and leading library initiatives.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic library environment.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment including computers, printers, copiers, and telephones.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications required.
  • The schedule for this position is typically Tuesday - Saturday, but may require occasional attendance at evening meetings, community events, or emergency situations. 
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
