General Statement of Duties
The On-site Supervisor must possess the ability to effectively coordinate and instruct recreation programs. The primary duties for the incumbent include:
•Maintain regular, reliable, and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
•Supervises volunteer coaches and Recreation Aides.
•Handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.
•Organize and implement programs and supervise participants in recreation and athletic activities.
•Maintain safety for the general public and staff. Also maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
•Assist in the planning for year-round recreation, prepare and organize registrations, supplies, and special events.
•Assist in running city wide special events.
•Responsible for developing creative and innovative methods of instruction in an effort to enhance the interest of the participants.
•Supervise seasonal programs and activities which include the aquatic program.
•Required to administer extreme caution and safety while assisting in recreation programs.
•Responsible for inspecting program facilities for potential hazards and must report broken equipment to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
•Required to complete necessary forms and reports such as incident reports.
•Answer telephone and respond to questions regarding athletic/recreation programs and registration information.
•Will perform other related duties that is required and assigned. 
Characteristics of the Class
Individual will work mostly indoors in a well-lit, air-conditioned, recreation facility as well as outdoors to oversee programs. This employee is under the direct supervision of the Athletic/Recreation Supervisor. General and specific assignments are received and are usually under little direct supervision allowing latitude for use of independent judgment.
Examples of Worked Performed (Not All-Inclusive)
•Effectively coordinate recreation and athletic programs which span approximately eight (8) weeks.
•Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources.
•Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
•Must clock in and report to work site a minimum of 10 minutes prior to scheduled time.
•Required to communicate clearly, courteously, and tactfully with students, parents, and the general public;
•Must inspect program facilities for potential hazards and must report broken equipment to the appropriate supervisor immediately;
•Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them overtime; 
•Responsible for administering good judgement and must possess the ability to contact the proper supervisors and authorities;
•Must also complete standard departmental incidents reports;
•Will perform other related duties that is required and assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Knowledge – Methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in the planning, development, and administration of community service programs. Common recreational and social needs of various age groups; Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation; Principles and procedures for implementing and directing a wide variety of community services activities; Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Skills - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times’ Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience; using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches. Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision-making; Talking to others to convey information effectively.
Abilities – Develop and administer community services and recreation programs suited to the needs of the community; Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the development and implementation of community services programs; Analyze, interpret, and explain section policies and procedures; supervise, train, employees, and volunteers; Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the working environment and with those contacted in the course of work.
Minimum Qualifications
Required high school diploma or equivalent GED. Valid Texas Driver’s License. Four (4) or more years of experience in recreation and athletic fields.
Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a part-time, non-exempt, seasonal position, with a 19-hour work week. Incumbent must have the ability to work flexible hours including holidays, evenings, and weekends, if needed. Participation in City sponsored special events, trainings, or meetings may be required.
