City of Pharr, TX is Hiring a Lifeguard (Open Positions: 25) Near Pharr, TX

General Statement of Duties
The purpose of this class within the organization is to ensure the safety of all patrons of the aquatic center, by preventing and responding to emergencies in and around the water.

Essential Functions
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Conducts responsible protective service work ensuring the safe use of the swimming facility by patrons.
- Conducts opening and closing duties for the aquatic center.
- Performs water rescue as needed and CPR or first aid treatment to injured or ill patrons.
- Ensures cleanliness of park and facilities.
- Enforces pool and water safety rules in a tactful and effective manner.
- Maintains swimming pool and surrounding area to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the facilities.
- Must inspect program facilities for potential hazards and must report broken equipment to the appropriate supervisor immediately
- Provide excellent customer service in both English and Spanish.
- Instruct Learn – to – Swim Lessons to the standard.
- Must attend all scheduled in-service trainings.
- Performs related work as assigned.

Work Environment

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and excessive exposure to extreme indirect and direct heat and/or cold for extended periods of time; wet or humid conditions. This job requires the employee to make decisions directly affecting the safety of others.

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
This position does not require completion of high school.
Requires the understanding of both English and Spanish languages.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Requires a Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid certification.
