City of Pasadena, CA is Hiring a Recreation Leader (After School Part-time up 19 hours per week) Near Pasadena, CA

The City of Pasadena's Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals with a passion to work with youth in a recreation type setting by providing assistance in supervising and conducting recreational activities in an Afterschool Program. These are part-time positions working up to 19 hours per week.
The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in assisting higher level staff in the oversight, instruction, and implementation of recreation/education type programs and activities. This is an excellent opportunity to work with youth from our local community and to serve as a positive role model in shaping future generations.
Afterschool Adventures Program
Recreation Leaders must be available to work Monday from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Tuesday through Friday 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Essential Functions

  • With direction of supervisor leads and organizes recreation programs and/or special activities for all age groups at a community center or at a large playground or park area.
  • Assists in planning and conducting special programs of a city-wide nature.
  • May be assigned as chief leader or serve as the only leader at a center, playground, park or special activities and events involving extensive facilities, large events, etc.
  • Instructs in various games and interprets rules of play.
  • Determines and arranges for supplies, equipment, and facilities needed for various program and activities.
  • Supervises the issuance, use, care and maintenance of recreation supplies and equipment assigned to center, playground, or activity.
  • Takes necessary precautions to ensure the safety of participants and spectators and renders first-aid as needed.
  • Cooperates with staff employees in promoting the total recreation program at an assigned location.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of attendance, time reports, accident reports, activities, progress reports, and meets all deadlines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 50 hours or more of paid and/or volunteer experience in recreation, physical education, or related field.
  • Current enrollment in a college or university majoring in Recreation or a related field is desirable.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process may consist of any combination of training and experience evaluation and structured interview.

There are currently several vacancies in the Afterschool Adventures Program. Recreation, and Community Services department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. This is an at-will position. These are part-time positions working up to 19 hours per week.
