Description

This position assists patrons and collects fees at the Russell Fields Pier.

Examples of Duties

  • Collects admissions fees for daily entry to the Russell Fields Pier using a point of sale system.
  • Monitors visitors passes.
  • Monitors visitors to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Prepares daily deposits; requests change as needed.
  • Monitors weather reports and water temperature and provides information to the public.
  • Completes daily reports and work logs.
  • Works with law enforcement to monitor and report illegal activities.
  • Provides general information to the public regarding fishing regulations, and other matters.
  • Monitors cameras and reports incidents.
  • Performs related duties.

Typical Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of customer services principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of cash handling principles and policies.
  • Knowledge of fishing regulations.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Parks and Recreation Director assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures, saltwater fishing regulations, and DEP guidelines. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of related visitor services duties. The need to enforce rules contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to perform collect fees, assist visitors, and enforce rules at the city pier. Success in this position generates revenue for the city.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, beach vendors, beach fire and law enforcement personnel, DEP representatives, Florida Fish and Wildlife employees, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and distinguishes between shades of color.
  • The work is typically performed outdoors.
