City of Palm Bay is Hiring a Recreation Aide Part-Time Near Palm, FL

 Recreation Department 
Graduation from high school or currently enrolled as a full time senior in high school. Experience in governmental or institutional recreation programs; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record. Certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid preferred.
*Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
*Computer literate including Microsoft Office applications.
Code 3Non-essential employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident by incident basis, the employee's Department Head will make the determination when the employee will be required to work and if they are re-assigned based on the needs of the City.
Under general supervision, performs recreation work coordinating activities in the Recreation Department. Work involves overseeing activities and coordinating organized sports, programs or special events. Employee is also responsible for supervising participants in various recreation and athletic programs and events, overseeing proper use and maintenance of recreational equipment and facilities, and receiving and recording requests to reserve recreation facilities. Employee is also responsible for preparing and submitting supply requisitions, and maintaining accounting of fees collected from program participants. Reports to the Senior Recreation Leader.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Coordinates City sponsored programs and events for all age and sex groups; oversees activities of program participants and volunteers; performs First Aid on injured program participants or volunteers, seeks further medical assistance as necessary, and prepares injury reports.
Assists in planning, organizing and promoting playoffs and tournaments for various leagues and sports; assists in planning, organizing and promoting special events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Havoc, Santa's Workshop, etc.; composes and types letters; assists in seeking donations for special events; orders supplies; recruits volunteers, etc.
Assists in preparing and supervising use of Community Center, athletic fields, playground, basketball courts, and other recreational facilities.
Answers telephones, receiving inquiries and providing information based on considerable knowledge of recreation program activities, events, policies, and procedures; prepares and sorts flyers for various activities such as classes, leagues and special events; receives and record requests to reserve use of Parks and Recreation facilities; records and relays other messages.
Receives fees for participation in recreation program events, use of facilities, etc., and records receipts.
Prepares requisitions and purchase orders for necessary supplies, materials and equipment, and submits to supervisor; travels to obtain supplies, as necessary; stores supplies and materials in designated areas.
Opens building at start of business day; secures building and activates outside lights and alarm system at end of business day.
Supervises activities of volunteers and community service workers assigned to Parks & Recreation Department.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
May plan, coordinate and instruct classes in various arts and crafts, as qualifications allow. May fill in for the Park Ranger during vacations, emergency situations or vacancies. Cleans and performs minor maintenance at the Community Center, Parks, ballfields, basketball courts and other recreation facilities; such as sweeping, mopping, empty trash receptacles and pick up debris, etc.; arranges activity rooms for various meetings as needed.
