City of Paducah, KY is Hiring an E911 - Shift Supervisor Near Paducah, KY

Supervises and directs dispatch center employees in public safety operations, including coaching telecommunicators and ensuring adherence to department policies. 
  • Oversees daily center operations, ensuring timely completion of all tasks, including LINK/NCIC paperwork. 
  • Maintains awareness of all activities, communicates changes effectively, and ensures subordinates adhere to policies and procedures. 
  • Promotes teamwork, fosters a positive attitude, and projects enthusiasm toward the agency, position, and colleagues to enhance the work environment. 
  • Coordinates processing of emergency and non-emergency calls, ensuring appropriate response from field units and emergency call-outs. 
  • Ensures minimum coverage levels are met by managing staffing for various scheduling needs, including short notice shortages, PTO, shift trades and training. 
  • Identifies performance issues requiring training, discipline, counseling, or goal setting. Documents errors and prepares development plans when necessary. 
  • Provides direction and guidance that is helpful, constructive, effective and ongoing. 
  • Projects an image of empathy and fairness in dealing with subordinates; demonstrates effective listening skills. 
  • Investigations of complaints and/or policy violations are thorough and objective. Corrective actions taken are well documented and appropriate.
  • Provides a consistent physical presence in the Center. 
  • Completes and reviews reports, logs and other records completed by subordinates to assure accurate record keeping. 
  • Ability to perform all duties of Telecommunicators.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs, conducts thorough performance evaluations for subordinates, and maintains detailed employee notes for development. 
  • Function collaboratively within the management team and may participate in hiring new employees as needed. 
  • Produces timely and accurate correspondence, memorandums, and assignments. 
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues and promptly notifies the appropriate service providers within the designated time frame. 
  • Documents shift activity, including call grades and unusual incidents, for communication to subsequent shift. 
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings and assigned training programs. 
  • May be assigned to manage agency projects 
  • Other duties as assigned 
Education: High School diploma or equivalent, with some advanced-level training in relevant fields such as supervisory practices. Experience: A minimum of three years’ experience dispatching police and fire calls or experience supervising employees in a 911 PSAP or multi-jurisdictional environment. Integrity: Maintains strict confidentiality and demonstrates strong moral and ethical character. Shows initiative, dependability, and professionalism in representing the organization. Displays honesty, fairness, and respect while adhering to established timeframes and ethical standards. Problem Solving/Decision Making: Requires strong problem-solving skills, capable of assessing situations effectively, maintaining composure during emergencies, and making sound decisions while efficiently managing heavy workloads. Technical Knowledge: Must have strong knowledge of the service area and surrounding area. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the handling and operation of all systems in the dispatch center.  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Availability: Must have flexible availability to accommodate the demands of the 24/7 operations. Basic Computer Skills:Must have proficiency in utilizing CAD software, telephone systems, radio communication equipment, and Microsoft Office suite. Risk Management:Works in a safe manner. Follows Center safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilitiesconcerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring malfunctioning equipment, unsafe activitiesand conditions.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must maintain the physical requirements to successfully pass the Essential Job Function Test as required for the position.
