Hiring range is from $38,850.00 to $51,575.00
This is a varied and highly responsible, technical, and administrative position related to management of federal, state and local grants. Work involves meeting with and educating applicants on the processes and requirements of the various affordable housing and community development programs. The Community Development Intake Specialist may serve in a lead worker capacity, providing assistance and coordination with other employees in the department. Within scope of responsibility, exercises independent judgment, initiative and discretion based on knowledge of applicable administrative policies and procedures in performing daily activities. Work involves routine contact with officials of the City, customers, and the public. Exercises trustworthy service, courtesy, tact and diplomacy in dealing with others. Work can be of a highly confidential nature and involves the skilled use of a computer. Works under assigned supervision.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Counsels, interviews, processes and verifies eligibility criteria for applicants of affordable housing programs and community development projects while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive client information. Determines the needs of applicants and identifies program eligibility, referring applicants to other agencies when necessary. Collects, organizes, and if necessary, notarizes official documents required to complete application(s). Customer Service: Communicates clearly and courteously to deal with people by phone, in person, and in writing. Uses strong interpersonal skills to communicate with various stakeholders including, but not limited to, lenders, builders/contractors, real estate professionals, title companies, non-profit service providers and housing development organizations. Correspondence: Prepares memos, letters, forms, statements, and correspondence on a variety of subjects. Uses various computer programs including Trak-It, Munis, Wrike, and Microsoft Office products to perform daily tasks including creation of PowerPoint presentations. Record Keeping: Maintains files and various records for the department. Is the department's designated Records Custodian.Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED Under immediate supervision, performs general assignments of work, with periodic check of performance by supervisor.SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED Intermediate: 10-Key, Alphanumeric Data Entry, Database, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing Basic: Accounting, Payroll Systems, Presentation/PowerPoint

MENTAL DEMAND Moderate mental demand. Operations requiring almost continuous attention, but work is sufficiently repetitive that a habit cycle is formed; operations requiring intermittent directed thinking to determine or select materials, equipment or operations where variable sequences may be selected by the employee.
ANALYTICAL ABILITY / PROBLEM SOLVING Moderately repetitive. Activities with slight variation using a definite set of processes or directions with some degree of supervision. Choice of learned things in situations which conform to clearly established patterns and modes.
USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS Regular use of complex machines and equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software, road and production machines and equipment, etc.) ACCURACY Probable errors of internal scope should ordinarily be detected within the department or office in which they occur, but may affect the work of others within the unit, requiring additional expenditure of time to trace errors and make all necessary corrections. Errors would require a moderate amount of time to correct.
PUBLIC CONTACT Regular contacts with patrons, either within the office or in the field. May also involve occasional self-initiated contacts to patrons. Lack of tact and judgment may result in a limited type of problem for the organization.
EMPLOYEE CONTACT Contacts of considerable importance within the department or office, such as those required in coordination of effort, or frequent contacts with other departments or offices, generally in normal course of performing duties. Requires tact in discussing problems and presenting data and making recommendations, but responsibility for action and decision reverts to others.
